6 Back Pain Tips

Are you in terrible pain?  Do you want to avoid back surgery?  Have you tried everything and nothing worked?

Here are some tips to help you reduce back pain:

*Diet:  Try to maintain a healthy and well-balanced diet avoiding high fat and sugary foods. 

*Avoid cold foods. Try not to eat salads, ice cream, tofu, soybeans, cold water or drinks, oatmeal, peanuts, papaya, black beans, bananas, and sweet/sticky rice.  These foods are cold by nature and when digested they can aggravate the pain.  

  *Exercise.  Yoga is a gentle exercise and is easy on the body.  If yoga does not interest you, there is aqua aerobics or walking.  Have you heard of the 20-minute rule?  Stand for 20 minutes, sit for 20 minutes, lying down for 20 minutes.  What is important to remember is to keep moving your body and avoid being stagnated or stationary.  Sitting for too long is not good for your overall health. 

*Put on more clothes.  Avoid coldness and dampness and put on more clothes to keep the back area warm. 

*Keep regular schedules. Keep your eating and sleeping schedules regular.

*Get out in the sun. Enjoy some sunbathing if the weather allows.

Many surgeries nowadays are highly effective and simpler than in the past. There is still no guarantee with back surgery that you will be pain-free.  Also when you have surgery, there are many possibilities for an error to occur.   If your doctor is suggesting surgery, you might want to give acupuncture a chance before you take out a big gun.
